Weidner
began his professional career, playing
for the FC Nurnberg (German Bundesliga)
A-Youth team in 1988. He returned to the
United States soon after to attend the
University of California, Irvine where
he received his B.A. in Film. Weidner
became the third-highest scorer in school
history and was voted to the Mountain
Pacific All-Conference Team in 1992 alongside
players such as Cobi Jones, Joe-Max Moore,
and Brad Friedel.
After
graduation, Weidner returned to Germany
and professional soccer. In 1995, he played
for Second Division FC Homburg, a team
where U.S. National team captain Thomas
Dooley also got his start. The following
year, he elected to play for a former
Bundesliga team, Borussia Neunkirchen,
where he helped this team into the final
rounds of the DFB Pokal (German Cup) and
was voted to the Oberliga Team of the
Year. Weidner ended his career in 1999
at SV Elversberg in the 3rd Division,
playing a total of seven years professionally
in Germany.
Weidner's
DFB License allows him to coach at the
professional level in Europe. He also
writes, directs, edits and produces feature
films with his production company, Shannon
River Productions. His most recent film,
The Spirit Hunter, won multiple awards
at film festivals and has received a national

He is currently at work on an independent
film about the super-hooligan soccer fans
in England, called Game Over. He is married
to his wife, Shannon, and has a son, Landon,
and two daughters, Kirian and Vienna.
